Yes. I charge an hourly rate to travel to locations over two hours from Minneapolis. This largely just covers gas - I love an excuse to head to northern Minnesota in particular so you can probably wrangle the travel fee out of the deal with the promise of great food and a cold lake.

Geography plays a role in this decision but not the only one. My yard sessions are only available for locations in Minneapolis. Personally, I am a big advocate for my standard session. My superpower is in the larger story, in contextualizing your family in space and time. Finding the plot and understanding the scene takes time. The standard session is also great for families who want to explore local or regional parks and natural areas together.

Yes. My yard sessions are designed for families with resource constraints - be it time, energy, capacity or something else. They are a wonderful for parents with newborns or simply celebrating special milestones close to home. If that isn’t you, a standard session allows me to dive into your story and a long session lets us capture the bigger picture.

I am a natural light photographer whose skillset lies in environmental portraiture. I am also a mom and a born-n-raised Minnesotan. We are living and parenting amidst increasing climate crisis. Between extreme heat and cold and wildfires, sometimes outdoors isn’t safe, practical or accessible. I believe with my whole heart that the family landscape doesn’t cease to exist indoors. Your home is a perfect spot for photos if that’s what you decide or need.

I ask myself a few questions when I get dressed in the morning. Is my clothing joyful? Is it comfortable? Is it practical? I have a guide I can send you if you need it but here’s the summary - get rid of the digital stuff (watches, phones in pockets etc.) and the logos, then layer natural fibers that make you feel at home in your body. I love bold colors, pops of red, and anything wool. I have a lot more to say here if you need or want support.

I will start by saying that to me, family photography is an expansive term. I am queer which means that I witness a lot of chosen family that is just as real as the people you’re related to by biology. I will carry the body legacy of my child for the rest of my life so I believe that portraits of mothers are still family photos, even without their children in them. I believe photographing your child’s senior photos and witnessing their transition into adulthood is family photography. I do not typically photograph weddings or couples. There are exceptions to every rule so get in touch if you think we would be a good fit regardless of the type of work.

I am a good fit for families that feel a special connection to a certain place, whether that’s their home or a lake house or a campsite or a bike seat. I focus on your relationship to the world around you, not just your relationship to one another. I am excellent at capturing the qualities of the landscape within your family - the ephemeral, the seasonal, the movement and change, the eye of the storm. I don’t need your kids to smile or cooperate or sit still. I don’t need you to do any of that either. I ask for sincerity, courage and trust and I offer curiosity, reverence and a steadfast belief in your family’s beauty in return.
